I'm tired

« on: December 24, 2006, 07:27:24 AM »

Well. it was my birthday last week and the family bought me a copy of NWN2, so I just had to finish my run through NWN before I could start the new game.

I took a Paladin through. I took some advice from various internet correspondents (including people here) and multi-classed as a Paladin/Fighter to get discipline and exotic weapons to use the Bastard Sword amd Shield

I really like the writing and some of the voice acting is good, although I suppose in the end much of its pretty mediocre, but it improves in the last chapter and the story becomes a story rarher than a bunch of episodes strung together. I like the variety between wilderness and dungeon. I like the tightness of the plot, in that we don't suddenly find Mindflayers, Drow and Githyanku mucking around in what is a tale of the ancient ones. This also means working the dragons in isn't so hard. I like the look and feel of fighting the dragons and Balor.

I miss the party features from BG2, I resent that you can only have one henchman. I think the Paladin has been mucked around with, it ought to be the most powerful fighter in my book and it just ain't, although the immunities are good, I'm not sure that it replaces a permanent protection from evil, but I could learn to do something about it.

I used the Game Banshee walkthrough; I had found that its very easy to miss stuff and you end up at a permanently too low a level to complete the game. I found the fighting easy most of the time, which is good for me, as I don't want to be very good at this and I find if the fights are too hard, I loose concentration on the story.

I used the Henchman Inventory & Battle AI mod v1.07, which I have written about on my wiki in an article called NWN Henchmen. I found this well worth installing. Other articles you might be interested in include NWN Playing a Paladin & NWN Walkthroughs.

Happy Xmas and thanks to you for your help in getting through. Now its on to multi-player and/or NWN2.

In D&D, pure fighters are by far the strongest fighters.  If paladins had the ability to cast spells plus were the strongest fighters, the game would be massively unbalanced.

Remember my PnP experience is V1.0 rules, there were no specialisations, although fighter's had better matrices, but the Pally was a fighter sub class. It was a fighter with spells, although the leveling table was longer, the same XP gave a fighter more levels. Also because of the flexibility of alignment for fighters, they could use a broader range of magic items, and you needed lower attributes to be a fighter, which often meant you didn't have a choice.

But you don't have to agree with me, I stand by what I say that (I think) the Paladin has been mucked around with too much!
